Since the spread of covid-19, the traditional OHANAMI(or HANAMI), whitch the Japanese love, couldn’t take place for 2 years.

This spring we all looking forward to OHANAMI.

OHANAMI means SAKURA veiwing party.

We the Japanese love OHANAMI because it is an event to feel happiness that the spring has finally arrived after a long winter, to welcome it safety again this year, to drink alcohol and get to know each other.

Then, in Japan, the financial year and the new school year begin in spring. So OHanami symbolizes the end of something and a new start in life.

I recommend 3 SAKURA spots in Tokyo.

Chidorigafuchi:Chiyoda-ku

Many cherry trees are planted on both sides of the moat of the Imperial Palace, and visitors can enjoy the reflections on the water and the cherry blossoms falling on the surface of the water.
The lighting up of the cherry blossoms is also magnificent.

Koganei-Koen(Park):Koganei-shi

This huge park in Tokyo has 1,700 cherry trees of 50 different varieties.

Don’t miss the Edo Tokyo Building Garden. Showa-era retro shopping district, lined with old design buildings. The cherry blossoms in front of the entrance are also magnificent.

Togoji(Tougou-Temple):Fuchu-shi

The temple is a 5-minute walk from Tama Reien Station on the Keio Line.

The combination of the temple gate(Sanmon), which was the model for the Kurosawa movie “Rajomon,” and the weeping cherry blossoms is a sight to behold.

Note that weeping cherry trees bloom earlier than Someiyoshino cherry trees!

Shinjuku Gyoen:Shinjuku-ku

A very famous park in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It has a Japanese garden, a Western garden, and various other facilities.

admission is charged, but it is worth it. There are a large number and variety of cherry trees.

Nogawa Sakura Light-up:Chofu-shi

Only 3 hours, one night event.

A one-night-only event held in Chofu City, Tokyo for only 3 hours.

Arc System Corporation, which handles lighting equipment and other products in Chofu area, lights up about 630 meters of cherry trees along both banks of the Nogawa River.

This is an annual one-night event held by a local company for local residents, but it is so beautiful that many people come to see the cherry blossoms. It has become a very crowded event.

It was cancelled last year and again this year due to the spread of the COVID-19, but we hope it will be back next year.
